The new Certificate I in Industry (Pathways) qualification is being trialled throughout Australia to provide a bridge or ‘pathway’ to employment and/or further training for a wide range of learners.
The qualification focuses on developing both employability skills – such as communication, planning or teamwork – and technical work skills through structured work-based learning.
It may attract school students who want to gain knowledge of an industry to decide if it provides the career pathway they are looking for. It may also assist those for whom access may have been limited such as early school leavers, indigenous, the disabled, long term unemployed and other disengaged groups.
It is hoped the qualification will encourage collaborative delivery and assessment approaches between industry and training providers.
This trial is being funded by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) and has been developed in conjunction with the participating Industry Skills Councils (ISCs), the State and Territory Training Authorities (STAs), and the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA).
Ratio Pty Ltd has been contracted by DEST to manage the trials.
